Tom Maxey

Owner & Founder

Tom Maxey is a native of Ferrum, Virginia, and grew up in a family of farmers. After his career in sales came to an end, Tom turned to his roots and began Gracious Day in 2016. He embedded himself in the local farming community and embarked on a mission to provide fresh, sustainably produced grain to the community. Tom strives to maintain the mill at a high standard of quality that his customers have come to appreciate. Gracious Day products can now be found in a number of restaurants and stores across Floyd and Roanoke Counties. He has big plans for the future of Gracious Day, and exciting things are on the horizon.

Theo Testa

Associate Miller

Theo grew up in the suburbs of Fairfax County, VA, far from any farm fields. After high school he found his passion working in landscaping, garden centers, and anything else to get outside. In 2021 at the height of the pandemic, he and his wife Emmy left Northern Virginia for greener pastures in the New River Valley. Theo is very passionate about local agriculture and food production. He crossed paths with Tom and Gracious Day just a few weeks after moving to Southwest Virginia, and instantly a friendship was formed. Theo is a lover of the outdoors and an amateur botanist, usually hiking, backpacking, gardening, or wandering the forest when he’s not at work. He is currently finishing his degree in Crop & Soil Science at Virginia Tech.
